Lottie shook her head as she closed down her laptop and reached for her purse. Focus, she told herself. You have bigger things to worry about right now.

“I’m just nipping to Starbucks. Would any of you like anything?” The girls looked up at her, unsmiling. It pissed them off, the fact she didn’t need them anymore; she had friends elsewhere in the business, who were apparently more worthy than them. Ever since she’d somehow convinced Marcus to let her manage a new campaign – one that should rightfully have been given to Savannah or Bea – she’d hardly spoken to them. She was at her desk before they’d even woken up. She had her head buried in work, rarely coming up for air, all day and every day. And she’d befriended that other work-obsessed weirdo in finance, rendering them all worthless to her almost overnight.

“No. But thanks for asking,” Olivia replied, unsmiling. Lottie shrugged off the feeling she’d made some unwanted enemies and strode towards the lift, trying unsuccessfully to stop further images of the night entering her vision.
